Review sources
Analysing Booking.com reviews
Booking collects reviews only from guests after a stay and asks about set categories. That is why complaints here are factual and the noise is markedly lower than on Google Maps.
How these reviews differ
The author had to book and complete a stay, so every review describes a real experience. The platform splits the statement into "pros" and "cons", which gives a cleaner signal than one paragraph mixing the two. The scale runs to ten, not five.
Pros and cons kept apart
The platform does the splitting, not us. That means praise and complaint inside one review do not collapse into a single sentiment — and classification gets more accurate.
A 1–10 scale, not 1–5
A Booking.com average cannot be compared with a Google Maps average without conversion. The report does not put them in one table, and says why.
A narrower range of topics
Room, breakfast, staff, location, cleanliness, value. Complaints about parking and directions land elsewhere — which is why Booking.com alone is not enough.
Step by step
What to expect from this source
-
1
You point at the property profile
A link to the property page on Booking.com. The method is the same for hotels, apartments, guesthouses and hostels.
-
2
We pull post-stay reviews
The author had to book and complete a stay, so every statement describes a real experience. There are no reviews here from people who merely looked in.
-
3
We keep pros and cons apart
The platform splits the statement in two and we use that: praise and complaint inside one review do not collapse into a single sentiment.
-
4
We convert the scale for comparisons
The rating runs to ten, not five. The report does not put it in one table with Google Maps and explains why not.
In practice
The cleanest signal of any platform
Splitting pros from cons makes a large difference to classification. "Great location, but thin walls" is one paragraph on Google Maps from which two topics have to be separated. Here it arrives already divided by the author — and it was the author who decided which side each belongs on.
2 fields
instead of one paragraph. That is why classification of Booking.com reviews is more accurate than for any other source.
Why it works this way
Why both sources are worth having
A venue reading only Booking.com has a systematically distorted picture: it sees what the platform asked about and nothing that happened before the booking or outside the stay. An unanswered phone, misleading restaurant hours and a full car park are complaints that exist only on Google Maps.
Common questions
Do you pull reviews for a specific type of property?
For any property with a public Booking.com profile — hotels, apartments, guesthouses, hostels. The method is the same.
Do you see the per-category scores?
We see what is published publicly on the profile. They enter the report as a reference point alongside our own classification of the text.
How many reviews can you pull from one profile?
Up to twenty thousand per profile by default. That is a technical limit rather than a commercial one — above it the fetch time stops being reasonable.
